A LinkedIn "expert" contacted me yesterday. He shared with me the importance of the LinkedIn Social Selling Index and how it could help me reach nirvana on LinkedIn.
I explained, I'm not here to sell. I'm here to learn and share. I'm satisfied like this.
He insisted. I shared my SSI: 68% (apparently, if I'm below 80%, I'm not successful). I'm in the top 2% of my industry, in the top 11% of my network - sounds good to me.
He has over 20,000 followers, I have about 8,000.
Apparently he's in the top 25 influencers in our province.
I don't know, but I'm guessing I'm probably among the top influencers in our industry globally (it depends on the criteria! Define "influence" for me!).
I checked the engagement on his posts: almost nothing. But, according to him, that's misleading, because he has a bigger reach... and apparently his calendar is full.
Remember this...
▷ Reach is not a measure of success. It is a vanity metric if it leads to no results.
▷ A busy schedule is also not a measure of success if it doesn't turn into outcomes.
If he is so busy and successful, if he has such reach and influence, why does he have to waste his time trying to convince me? Why don't people flock to his feet to drink in his great wisdom?
His conclusion was: "The warriors of the light have little to do with the wars of egos" - hmm... I guess...
