Career lesson: I should have better protected my intellectual property over the years...
Many of you are aware that I authored the Web Analytics Maturity Model (later renamed Digital Analytics Maturity Model), which significantly shaped my career and, I believe, made a notable impact on the #digitalanalytics field. As I transition away from consulting, I've let go of some domains I previously maintained, including DigitalAnalyticsMaturity(dot)org.
I just discovered that someone has acquired this domain and is publishing AI-generated content that inappropriately claims my work. This individual, calling himself "Patrick Williams" — someone we've never heard of in the field and is likely fake — falsely alleges to have created the DAMM, despite numerous articles on the site attributing the work to me.
I'm not even sure what's the purpose of the site - besides grabbing SEO terms related to my work - the site lacks any contact information.
I'm obviously frustrated and saddened to see a significant aspect of my career being so shamelessly and blatantly taken away from me. The DAMM is a project to which I have dedicated years of hard work.
And there isn't much I can do. 😕
And this will get worse.
