Cookies are harmless.
Let’s stop talking about “cookie apocalypse”, “cookieless future” and other nonsense. It’s more about the fact that they are an open door to privacy invasion and tracking abuse by too many companies in the digital marketing and digital advertising ecosystem. Without explicit consent, supposedly anonymous tracking, and even without the use of cookies, can lead to abuse, erosion of customer trust, and widespread disillusionment with the surveillance capitalism industry.
Ultimately, it is not the method of data storage that matters, but the purpose for which it is collected in the first place, how transparently it is handled, and how much control consumers have over the data collected about them.
