Giant Tiger, the Canadian discount retailer, has suffered a data leak.
You might say: “💩 happens…”
But:
• the site still doesn’t comply with #Law25 in Quebec;
• there is no consent banner;
• the site asks for precise geolocation—which is personal information—while approximate geolocation would be sufficient;
• there are over 40 cookies and no possibility to opt out from tracking by the likes of Rakuten, Rioseo, Bing, Klaviyo, Criteo, Facebook, Google Ads, BidSwitch, Rubicon, Taboola, Teads, 3lift, Yahoo Ads, Casal Media, 360Yield, Mediavine, Pubmatic, AdNexus, Demdex, the list goes on…
• and of course, their loyalty program members’ data was leaked: email, phone number and certainly other information such as address.
It is their customers who have to live with the annoyance of spam emails, scam calls and the stress of seeing their identify being stolen.
Don’t be a Giant Tiger…
See the result of the PageXRay tool by Dr. Augustine Fou—it speaks for itself.
