I'm sure there will be a movie about #ElonMusk and #Twitter very soon... just like there was for #WeWork, #Theranos, and back in the day, #GovWorks.
► WeWork ("WeCrashed", 2022): was he full of crap and knew it, or did he genuinely believe what he was doing was right? He was bold! How many entrepreneurs have lied or played with facts to get investment? How many startups still believe they are one big family? How many employees are lured by the prospect of stock and golden handcuffs? If we look at the current state of remote work and shared spaces, there was some good between all the evils... Toxic corporate culture? I experienced it - not that bad - but that's really how it was - and still is in many companies today!
► Theranos ("The Dropout", 2022): I think at first she believed in the possibility, but got caught up in a downward spiral of lies. Like a child, she didn't have the maturity to recognize when to tell the truth....
► govWorks ("Startup . com", 2001): a very interesting case that happened just as the dot-com bubble was growing. The film is a collection of actual recordings of the team. We see the growth... and the crash... Buddies coding in a mansion, meeting Bill Clinton, having way too much money... and it all crashes. An example of a great idea at the wrong time.
What would be the highlight of a movie about Twitter? The second life (pun intended) of a platform that, according to Crunchbase, has received nearly $13 billion over the years, was valued at $41 billion before the purchase and was bought by Musk for $44 billion? ... Only to fire senior management on day one, make employees work 80+ hours a week to meet an arbitrary deadline that no one really asked for, and threaten to fire them if they don't... Musk is no doubt a brilliant man, but certainly not the one with the best reputation for treating his employees.
As for me, I almost stopped using Twitter a long time ago and am very close to closing my account. It would be one less waste of time to deal with!
• What about you? Will you kill the bird?
• What should a Twitter movie be about?
• Any other interesting movies to add to my collection?
