In recent debates among #digitalanalytics and #digitalmarketing professionals, there has been a growing concern about the potential impact of #ChatGPT and other #generativeAI on their work. Will these tools make their tasks more manageable or render them obsolete?
An interesting demonstration on the Jason Calacanis podcast showcased the capabilities of ChatGPT plugins. Early on in the demo, Sunny Madra mentioned that this is a job typically assigned to a #datascientist. IMHO, if you're paying a data scientist for this level of basic analysis, it might not be the most efficient use of your resources, as these tasks could be performed more simply in Excel...
Nevertheless, the key takeaway is that these AI advancements will enable virtually anyone to conduct this type of analysis. The true value will lie in the ability to ask insightful questions and master "prompt engineering." This skill set parallels the current phenomenon of "script kiddies" who can copy code from Github but struggle to innovate beyond that.
For marketers and digital analysts, it is crucial to have a deep understanding of the core principles of their discipline. Otherwise, the value they offer in the market will be significantly diminished, if not made obsolete.
Of course, as someone who teaches these concepts in my classes, I may be biased in my perspective!
