In the early 1990s, I was a very advanced user of the Esri Arc Info geomapping product and have always been interested in data and geography.
A year ago, I moved to Canmore, Alberta, at the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, just 20 minutes from the legendary Banff National Park.
As an avid hiker, friends and family naturally worry about the possibility of a bear encounter. So far, it hasn't happened. But it will!
The answer is clearly presented in these two maps released by Parks Canada. They show the location and movements of bears, wolves and cougars over a period of several years. But there are also coyotes* and foxes*, elk*, deer*, moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goats*.
If you look at the map, Canmore is about 20 minutes toward the east, so we can imagine the amount of wildlife is quite similar.
