Interesting comment from Mikko Piippo: "I don't know a single successful #entrepreneur who wrote a business plan for their company. ... So why do schools & governments keep telling that business plans are important tools for entrepreneurs?" Have you ever heard about the Harvard #MBA study on goal setting? Whether true or not, the fact of writing it down increases the likelihood of success. IMHO, the thought process is more important than the delivery format. I would put this with the other statements like "MBAs are useless", or "writing SMART objectives is all theory, nobody does it" (in fact, on that point, I recommend using a Product Thinking approach to define objectives), "the 4Ps of marketing are obsolete, there are now 5, 7 or 42...", etc. Yes, those are concepts & theories... yet, I still teach them to my MBA students. Why? Because: ⇨ develop critical thinking, first and always (aka "don't drink the Kool-Aid") ⇨ the thought process is more important that the delivery format or the exactitude of the concept (as was the case with my maturity model!) ⇨ and I always add: "if you have a better way, I'm listening!" :)
