Sixteen years ago, I was a freelancer. None of the info is valid anymore (except my LinkedIn profile!), but it brought some nostalgia.
Most of my time was spent untangling tracking code, trying to understand what was firing, what wasn't, and why.
Out of that frustration came an idea: WASP - the Web Analytics Solution Profiler.
A homegrown tool, built on nights and weekends, designed to reveal what was happening behind the scenes.
It resonated pretty well in the little industry known as "web analytics".
WASP became a go-to tool for thousands of analysts around the world - long before tag managers, consent frameworks, and real-time debugging consoles.
It didn't change the world, but it changed the way we saw it.
Today, the tech is different. The regulations are tighter. The stakes are higher.
But one thing hasn't changed: the need for visibility.
That's why my go-to solution is Verified Data.
But with MANTIS - the Metadata Analysis & Notification Tool for Intelligence Surveillance - I want to do something different. A new tool for a new era - but with the same core mission: making the invisible visible.
Because in this field, what you don't see is usually where the problem lies.
The aim isn't the compete with my good friend Brian Clifton, it's to complement it with a companion tool that, like WASP did, will work "in situ" of your browsing experience. It's very early and experimental, I'm not even sure it will work. We'll see!
