The algorithms of major tech companies are eroding democracy. It's like Cambridge Analytica all over again, but this time, in plain sight. Musk’s platforms - and now Zuckerberg, following the same playbook - are wielding their algorithms to manipulate political discourse, consolidating media control in the hands of a few U.S. tech oligarchs. The result? A real and growing threat to democratic processes. So, what’s the solution? I’ve already left X, and I’m seriously questioning whether Facebook is worth staying on. But is abandoning these platforms enough? One alternative could be regulatory action: force platforms to offer a chronological feed with content only from those you follow. No algorithmic interference, no manipulation - just unfiltered access to what matters to you. Would this restore control to the public and safeguard democracy? Or is the problem deeper than that?
