This video from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has already been viewed 2.5 million times since it was posted yesterday. It's a crash course in what's fucked up with the #digitalmarketing industry.
Since meeting Chris Wylie in 2019, I've been saying loud and clear that there's a lot more #CambridgeAnalytica out there. Over the past couple of years, I talked about "The Elasticity of Analytics Ethics", I shared "Hamel Hell" and I even managed to make an analogy with Peter Pan with a presentation entitled "All the world if made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust."
That was just me, a lone #digitalanalytics freelancer turned #dataprivacy advocate - John Oliver and the production team nailed it! It goes beyond #NoConsentNoTracking... I would dare to say it's time to think about #NoConsentNoFuture.
In the meantime, #DataBrokers continues to collect data, marketers continue to use it, and consumers are conditioned to accept it.
Behind catchy statements like "if it's free, it's because you're the product," lies a multi-billion dollar scheme to harvest every bit of #privacy dust you leave behind.
